Sales Manager – Central West Africa Cluster – Maersk Line, Lagos, Nigeria

Dimensions and Scope
· To deliver and optimize Yield and Volume for the cluster
· To deliver on CSS (Customer Satisfaction) targets for the cluster
· To increase customer satisfaction and loyalty
· To deliver on Productivity targets for the cluster – FFE/Sales FTE
· Deploy clear objectives throughout the sales organization linked to the cluster scorecard and Maersk Line and sales strategy
· Drive a performance culture
· Develop Sales Pipeline mindset supported by effective coaching and competency development
· To recruit and develop sales people and build a talented organization
· To ensure overall coordination between channels, functions, countries and region

Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Coaching and Development
· Improve the competencies within the sales organization through effective coaching
· Instilling the coaching framework within the sales organization

2. Account Management
· Maintains senior relationships with top accounts
· Make joint calls with sales executives in relation to the account strategy as part of coaching
· Establish/approve account strategy and account planning for key accounts where applicable
· Drive channel optimization through quarterly customer allocation exercise with follow up on action plans basis justification and cost to sell

3. Sales Team Performance
· Manages Sales resources (selection, development and succession) efficiently
· Develops Sales Pipeline mindset through coaching and pipeline reviews
· Ensure optimal activity management and account Management to truly understand our customers and their needs
· Implement Commercial Incentive programs (CIP) to incentivize and drive performance behavior

4. Drive Campaigns to Generate Healthy Pipeline and Yield
· Give input to the Trade and Marketing team on relevant campaign ideas, target audience based on customer knowledge and competitor actions
· Receive opportunities from campaign team and from telemarketing. Follow up on these via your sales force and ensure Insight updated
· Monitor progress and give frequent feedback to Trade and Marketing team to ensure learning's.
· Interact extensively with Trade and Marketing team to ensure feedback from customers and knowledge of the Market place is gathered, analyzed, discussed and actioned.
· Develop and target business opportunities based on analysis coming from Trade and Marketing team – short, medium and long term

5. Develop and Maintain Sales Strategy
· Develop an effective commercial strategy approved by the Cluster Top and deliver on the targets
· Leverage understanding of local business environment to support the development of sales strategy
· Set clear and actionable strategy for the sales team and develop innovative plans to achieve goals in line with the Maersk Line global sales strategy.

6. Sales Leadership
· Attract and retain strong talent through clear deployment of objectives, competency development, coaching and incentivizing
· Act as a role model and collaborate as a senior Maersk Line executive to promote the Maersk Line values and objectives in the sales organization

Skills and Competencies Required
· Bachelor's degree in business or related field
· Minimum 5 years Sales experience in leadership position
· Ability to set clear sales strategy and direction
· Role model for sales leadership-performance management, coaching, time management, attracting and retaining talent
· Role model for customer relationship leadership
· Ability to builds trusted relationships across Maersk Line
· To leverage internal and external relationships to expand business opportunities for Maersk Line
· Possess strong business, customer and market understanding
· Sales process management and possess a pipeline mindset
· Process Excellence (PEX) mindset and ability to visualize and interpret trends from reports and data
· Financial acumen and cost awareness
· Cross functional collaboration

WACT is looking for a Chief Operations Officer, whose key role will be to provide leadership and direction for the operations, technical & IT functions of the Terminal This positions will also be responsible for ensuring optimum productivity with the highest safety standards, providing excellent customer service to the shipping community and key stakeholders while maintaining a cost efficient operation.

The position offers

Job Responsibilities

* This position will be responsible for the execution of the operational strategy and the continuous improvement of the operational performance at the terminal.
* The incumbent is expected to provide significant input to the terminal's business strategy.
* The incumbent will be the predominant authority in defining operational plans and shall be a key member responsible for the achievement of results in a number of functional areas which complement each other.
* The position will drive subordinated positions (and functions) to efforts of enhancing existing operations methods of the terminal.
* The position is multi-dimensional.
* Provides the leadership and direction of the Terminal's operations.
* Establishes and implements action plans for current and long range objectives, of the terminal's operations and expansions.
* Leading role in the selection, negotiation and finalization of agreements with suppliers & customers. Where appropriate is responsible for execution and maintenance of SLA's.
* Participates as a key member of any steering committee for new projects, initiatives, and plays a leading role in defining project management strategies and will be responsible for the deliverables of related project plans.
* Provides a working strategy to the IT department, supports and contributes to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service.
* Ensures compliance with HSSE policies & procedures.
* Enforces safe working practices are enforced to ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum.
* Ensures a cost efficient operation where waste is minimized and production is enhanced through the effective implementation of Process Excellence and Technical Asset Management.
* Liaises closely with shipping companies, customs agents, trucking companies, Customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met.
* Liaises closely with vendors, suppliers, external consultants, etc to ensure that divergent deliverables are met as required by the terminal
* Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the reporting functions.
* Responsible for ensuring that all managers and labor in the operation are trained in best operational practices. Manage employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline and grievances.
* Ensure that the terminal adheres to APM Terminals world standards for container terminal operations.
* Measure and monitor performance against critical criteria, policy and guidelines established by APM Terminals.
* Liaise with labor unions (where applicable) and on behalf of APMT take part in long-term contract negotiations with labor unions. Ensure industrial harmony with the workforce.

Experience & Profile
* The position requires a Professional Standard of Knowledge to lead teams through functional/general expertise in the Operations and associated functions as well as broad management skills.
* University degree in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering or a marine qualification at least at Masters 1st Class level (including command of a vessel).
* Post graduate studies in Port and/or Terminal Management, or related business studies.
* Minimum 6-8 years in operations management roles in a container terminal.
* Minimum 3 years experience handling technical issues & negotiations with third parties.
* Proven experience in cost and productivity optimization (through process optimization) as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures.
* Strong understanding of the role of IT in a container terminal environment.
* Basic experience in finance related matters, setting budgets and reporting against financial objectives.
* Extensive knowledge of APM Terminals operational practices.
* Project management skills would be preferred.
* Good communication skills including ability to communicate across the organization.
* Excellent analytical skills.
* Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Fluent in English and local language (where applicable).
* Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and promote a team environment to meet objectives.
* Prior experience in Africa and specifically West Africa would be preferable.
* Ability to successfully work with multi racial / cultural work force.

This position offers an outstanding opportunity to join the global team at APM Terminals and contribute to the success of the organization. The position reports to the Operations Manager.

Key Accountabilities

· Manage, motivate and instruct all operational team members, set priorities and structure tasks and goals.
· Provide effective organisation and control of all terminal operations during designated shift period in order to meet planned objectives.
· Coordinate terminal planning and operations to ensure effective ship working programmes are set and maintained to ensure vessels meet sailing or berthing deadlines.
· Liaise with engineering department shift management to maximize equipment availability and effectiveness.
· Is responsible for efficient allocation of all shift operational staff and the cost-effective utilisation of equipment resources to match the operational requirements of the terminal.
· Ensure that recognized safe working practices are utilized for all terminal operations and maintain effective implementation of safety policies and procedures.
· Provide first line of response for emergency situations and damage assessments.
· Provide terminal presence by maintaining significant visibility checks all quay side and yard activities continuously throughout shift and prepare operational reports as required by management.
· Maintain continuous operations by ensuring all shift operational staff use the "hot seat" changeover at shift changeover times and for operator rest break changeovers.
· Assist in the development of staff to ensure they perform at efficient and effective levels by monitoring performance and taking appropriate action in order to ensure they reach their full potential.
· Contribute to "on the job" training of supervisory staff and undertake other duties within capabilities as required by senior management.

Your Profile
Ø Require a University degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related discipline.
Ø Require at least seven years or more of strong supervisory experience in container terminal operations environment or similar industry. Previous experience as a foreman, supervisor, superintendent or other similar position would be expected as a natural progression to this position.
Ø Is thoroughly familiar with the strict implementation of international standards of safe working practices within marine, stevedoring and terminal operations.
Ø Advanced computer skills with a sound understanding of modern terminal planning and control systems.
Ø Require a comprehensive understanding of container terminal operations, especially vessel cargo logistics, hazardous cargo, break-bulk and special cargo handling requirements and equipment.
Ø Ability to work under pressure, anticipates potential problems and diagnoses, evaluates and resolves logistical problems as they happen in order to meet operational performance objectives and deadlines.
Ø Have effective customer service skills.
Ø Provide leadership and ensure cooperation and support from employees and contractors in all areas of terminal operations to achieve operational objectives of the business using a teamwork approach.
Ø Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills combined with good counseling and listening skills.
Ø Well developed English oral, written communications and report writing skills. Also must have a working knowledge of Pidgin English.
Ø Has a current Driving License.
§ Requires capability to anticipate problems by recognizing the key issues in problems and creating contingency plans and alternative solutions.
